Venezuelan Journalists Call Out Foreign Military Threats to National Sovereignty

Guacamaya, October 4, 2025. More than 70 Venezuelan journalists have signed a letter rejecting “any form of foreign military intervention in Venezuela.”

The letter’s release comes in the wake of U.S. armed forces being deployed in the Caribbean and lethal bombings targeting vessels suspected of drug trafficking.

Among the signatories of the “Dialogue among Journalists for Peace” are prominent figures such as Vladimir Villegas and Francisco “Kiko” Bautista, along with others who have been engaged in politics, like Mercedes Malavé and Juan Barreto.

Below is the full text of the letter:

Journalists Reject Turning Venezuela into a War Zone

The possibility of any foreign military intervention in Venezuela poses an unacceptable threat that must be rejected by everyone in the country.

The U.S. military presence in the Caribbean and the aggressive attacks on vessels without substantiation put peace at risk in the region and showcase the ineffectiveness of international organizations, which should be mediating any conflict scenarios between nations.

The unilateral use of military force is in violation of International Law and contradicts the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter. It is crucial to ensure that threats or uses of force do not replace dialogue, negotiation, and the pursuit of agreements among conflicting parties.

The protection of national sovereignty is a fundamental duty, supported by the ethical standards of journalistic practice, regardless of individual political views. Thus, we unequivocally reject any form of foreign military intervention in our lands.

We urge Venezuelan society to unite to defend our sovereignty. May this initiative contribute to our national unity as we tackle our political, economic, and social challenges grounded in the current Constitutional framework.

Maintaining our territorial integrity, sovereignty, and peace are essential that cannot be compromised when defending our homeland, Venezuelan identity, and regional ideals—values that are part of our collective spirit. We encourage the prioritization of diplomatic approaches to resolve differences between countries and discard the option of military force.

The United Nations (UN) member countries have responsibilities to uphold International Law, adhere to Human Rights agreements, and respect each nation’s sovereignty.

No nation, regardless of its power, should claim the right to act unilaterally and wield weapons to impose its interests, especially while disregarding the existence of the norms that sustain an international order born from the necessity of maintaining peace and coexistence among nations.
