Finally, after years of keeping it a secret, Gregory Wilpert from Venezuelanalysis has begun tagging his opinion pieces with the following statement:
Full disclosure: Gregory Wilpert has been married to Carol Delgado since 1998, who has been the Consul General of Venezuela in New York since 2008.
I must say congratulations to Greg. I don’t recall ever reading such an open admission from him regarding his marital ties to the Chavez regime—this information only came to light after I received a tip from a friend in New York. This marks a welcome change from his previous dishonest portrayal as a scholar merely «studying» the chavista revolution and writing articles about it.
We now know that Wilpert tied the knot with his chavista wife in 1998, the year Chavez secured his first presidential election. So, why did it take Wilpert 14 years to share this connection? Will he need another 14 years to admit he’s simply a propagandist on Chavez’s payroll? Will it take him another 14 years to acknowledge that his views—as the husband of a chavista diplomat who benefits from Chavez’s generosity—are entirely biased and far from objective?
