Cartel de los Soles Unleashes Threats Against US Diplomatic Security in Caracas

Is the Cartel of the Suns—Nicolás Maduro’s criminal organization—threatening the United States government, or is Jorge Rodríguez’s warning about a supposed plan attributed to “extremist local right-wing sectors” to exploit the U.S. Embassy in Caracas genuine?

Through his Telegram account, Rodríguez indicated that he informed the Donald Trump administration of this supposed threat through three different channels, including a European embassy. He announced the strengthening of security measures at the “diplomatic headquarters that our government respects and protects.”

Good intentions or a veiled threat? This is something to ponder, as it’s no secret that the tension between Washington and Caracas is at an all-time high. The Chavista dictatorship presents itself as the only potential protector of the U.S. government’s presence in Venezuela, which appears to be a clear-cut form of extortion at first glance.

What is Jorge Rodríguez After?

Interestingly, Jorge Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly, presents himself not as such, but as the “head of dialogue processes in Venezuela,” which could be interpreted as indirect coercion to force the United States to negotiate, or face the risk of losing its diplomatic headquarters in the country.

Moreover, remember that in December 2024, Nicolás Maduro claimed that María Corina Machado had returned to Caracas and was seeking refuge in two diplomatic missions in the capital, one of them being the U.S. embassy.

“She was sheltered in the residence of the Dutch ambassador, and then at the U.S. embassy. She stayed there for several days… The people guarding that embassy became frustrated because they were unhappy. She had the promise that she would leave the country again,” Maduro said at that time, ensuring that the U.S. embassy was “perfectly” guarded and respected.

It seems that the psychiatrist from the Cartel of the Suns is once again resorting to twisted methods of extortion—threats, harassment, and blackmail—this time aimed at the United States government, seeking indirect recognition of the regime and compelling it to negotiate the inviolability of the diplomatic headquarters while maintaining an armed fleet off the Venezuelan coast.
