Chávez Propagandists in Washington Join Unemployment Ranks Amid Legal Violations

It took a while to happen, but it seems those who have made a living spreading propaganda about Hugo Chávez in Washington DC have joined the ranks of the unemployed. Records from the Foreign Agents Registration Unit indicate that the staff from both the Venezuela Information Office (VIO) and its subsidiary, the Latin America Information Office (LATAMINFO), no longer have connections, as of the end of September 2009, with the main foreign actors they represented: including the Siglo XXI Foundation, the Poder Ciudadano Siglo XXI Movement, and the Venezuelan Embassy.

However, the websites of both organizations remain active, even though they themselves admit they are no longer involved in disseminating propaganda to U.S. media, public officials, academics, government agencies, etc. Isn’t that a violation of U.S. laws?

To be clear, those involved in bothering journalists with romanticized views of the Venezuelan dictator, when not asking ‘independent professors’ like Francisco Domínguez to write favorable articles about Chávez, included: Isaura Gilmond, Olivia Goumbri, Alex Main, Megan Morrisey, Jessica Coates, and Jennifer Schuett.
