An American official leaked details to Fox News about the CIA Director, John Ratcliffe’s, visit to Caracas. According to information published on January 16, Ratcliffe met on January 15 with Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, along with other high-ranking officials.
This meeting occurred about two weeks after the Trump administration carried out a military operation that led to the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
The same U.S. official indicated that Ratcliffe met with Rodríguez “under the direction of President Donald Trump” to convey that the United States “expects an improved working relationship.”
Reports mention that topics such as intelligence sharing, economic stability, and the necessity for Venezuela to stop being a “safe haven for U.S. adversaries, especially drug traffickers,” were discussed at the meeting.
So far, no official statement has been released by the CIA, the White House, or the Venezuelan government confirming or denying the details of this visit.
