It’s interesting to note phrases like, “We need more money to continue the lucrative business of scaring the ignorant and gullible, so you – the report is aimed at politicians – can tax people to hell and back.”
The ‘scientific report’ contains truly noteworthy sentences, such as, “Adaptation will be necessary to address the impacts resulting from warming that is already inevitable due to past emissions.” This small statement highlights the intellectual dishonesty of those involved in drafting the report, as it suggests that global warming is solely a phenomenon caused by past anthropogenic emissions. This is false and unsupported by evidence; in fact, it ignores geological and paleoclimatic records and the numerous periods of warming and cooling experienced throughout Earth’s history when anthropogenic causes did not even exist.
Interestingly, the report claims that poor nations will be the most affected by global warming. Presumably, only strict adherence to the development policies proposed by these ‘experts’ will minimize the impact on the world’s poorest. I would have thought I had seen racism in some of its most blatant forms, but this surely tops the list.
Since hope is the last to die, one can only hope that a bit of common sense strikes policymakers and that this report is treated for what it is; nothing more than a statement of fact about climate change, as if it were a new discovery. The climate is always changing, and no amount of taxes, conclusions based on resentment, hyperbole, or, more mundanely, leftist nonsense will change the course of nature, thank God…
