Pressure Mounts on Cartel de los Soles as Maduro’s Regime Wavers amidst U.S. Crackdown

The pressures exerted by the United States on the Cartel de los Soles and its narcoterrorism activities are shaking Nicolás Maduro’s regime, which now faces limited operational capacity and reduced funding sources.

The complex political and social situation in Venezuela is exacerbated by the actions of the U.S. government, determined to prevent its territory from becoming a battleground where the ammunition is none other than the drugs the Cartel de los Soles is trying to flood in to destroy its population.

The fight against drug trafficking and the financing of criminal organizations, including that led by Maduro, also involves countering disinformation and propaganda. It is essential for the region to unite in this battle, forming a front against the Venezuelan regime, which has the support of China, Iran, and Russia. This is a struggle for all the West against those who are bent on its destruction.

The Cartel de los Soles and the Antinarcotics Fight

The existence of the Cartel de los Soles is an established fact, despite the attempts of Nicolás Maduro’s regime and its allies to deny it, supported by more than 20 years of work from officials in the Departments of Justice, Defense, Homeland Security, the DEA, the FBI, and U.S. government agencies focused on state security.

There is sufficient evidence that proves, beyond a reasonable doubt, the criminality of Maduro’s regime and the Cartel de los Soles it leads. Denying this evidence, which rests in U.S. courts, can only be seen as an action stemming from ignorance or agents of the regime and the terrorist organization.

In this context, the main objective of U.S. pressure is to cut off the financing of Maduro’s regime by shutting down all the sources that provide resources to these designated terrorist organizations.

It is also crucial to confront and debunk the narrative that seeks to dissociate the late former president, Hugo Chávez, from these narcoterrorist activities, given that it was he who founded and expanded the Cartel de los Soles.

This makes it vital for the entire region to join this battle, as countries like Argentina, Ecuador, and Paraguay have done, categorizing the Cartel de los Soles as a terrorist organization, while Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Panama could potentially follow suit. Meanwhile, Canada, Chile, Mexico, and Uruguay maintain an inexplicable neutral stance.

Attempts to Extract Maduro and Disinformation

The Brazilian defense portal Defesanet disclosed a supposed plan— Operation Imeri— aimed at rescuing Nicolás Maduro with support from the Brazilian Armed Forces and under the auspices of the government.

According to the outlet, Brazilian Chancellor Mauro Vieira and his Venezuelan counterpart, Yván Gil, reportedly discussed this action plan to protect the Venezuelan dictator.

The Brazilian Ministry of Defense denied the existence of this plan, yet some opinions suggest that there may be elements of truth mixed with fiction in this information.

What is certain is that speculations point to the existence of two types of plans:

  • Maritime: unlikely due to the superiority of the U.S./NATO Navy in the Caribbean.
  • Aeronautical: using Embraer KC-390 Millennium aircraft to establish an airbridge to attempt to reach Caracas and rescue Maduro and part of his entourage. This would be a difficult plan to carry out without the consent of the U.S.

What remains clear is that Brazil is becoming a center for disinformation and propaganda, aided by Russia, China, Iran, Cuba, and the Venezuelan dictatorship.

Another element to consider is the role of CONVIASA, the Venezuelan state airline, which has increased flights to strategically allied countries like Nicaragua, Russia, China, Cuba, Mexico, and Brazil. This circumstance suggests the establishment of evacuation routes.

Implications and Future Prospects

It is essential to maintain and intensify pressure on Nicolás Maduro’s regime and the Cartel de los Soles. U.S. and allied pressure against the dictator and his criminal financial networks must grow and multiply.

Moreover, the presence of chavismo through illicit businesses and money laundering in countries like Brazil, Uruguay, and Bolivia presents a significant risk to the stability and institutional integrity of the region.

It is vital to wage a war against disinformation to counter narratives aimed at creating confusion. Propaganda and false or manipulated information, especially from Brazil with support from Russia, China, and Iran, serves as crucial tools for the regime to manipulate public opinion. Providing accurate information is essential.

It is necessary to unmask those who attempt to create a narrative around a “good chavismo” and the idealization of Hugo Chávez. Chavismo as a transitional alternative is unacceptable, as the break must be total.

The success in the fight against the Cartel de los Soles and chavista criminality depends on cooperation among countries, declaring these organizations as terrorists, and tracking illicit funds.

The internal situation in Venezuela is agonizing, with a populace in a state of tension, subjected to narratives that aim to maintain this state of unease. The fall of Nicolás Maduro is crucial for the tranquility of Latin America.
